If you could change one important thing in your country, what would you change? Use reasons and specific examples to support your answers
There are a few things. The education system, racism, homophobia.
- The education system
I’ll be talking about schools in Armenia. Humans are naturally curious creatures. From a very young age we question everything, for example “why is the sky blue ?” or “why are some roses red ?”. So we should naturally love school because it teaches us about different things. Here is the problem, school makes everything as boring as possible and at this point it doesn’t teach us the most important things that we’re going to need in the future like “how to get out of debt or not be in debt at all”, “how to start and control a business”. To illustrate, the reign of Tigran the Great isn’t exactly going to get me out of debt or help me in any kind of way in my ordinary day. Nowadays schools are about passing rather than learning. This is something I’d love to change.
2. Racism
I thought there wasn’t much racism in Armenia before I asked everyone about their opinion on the BLM movement and about black people in general and to sum up their answers, there is move racism in Armenia than I thought. Ofcousre racism can come with the environment they’ve been raised in. For instance, living in or being raised in an all white neighborhood can make you feel uncomfortable around black people because you’re not used to them or you haven’t seen black people at all. It is extremely important for parents to have a talk with their kids about racism and how they should treat everyone equally. Racism goes both ways. It’s not only about black people but I will be talking about racism against black people. Black people get bullied severely, get weird stares, and are made uncomfortable in schools or in any public places. I’ve noticed that white armenians or anyone white have no problem with using “the n word” freely while not knowing why it’s so offensive to black people. There is a link here about the history about the racial slur.

3. Homophobia
Homophobia in Armenia is way more than racism and it also has everything to do with how and where you were raised. What people need to understand is that being LGBTQ+ is not a choice. Nobody chooses to be gay, transgender, bisexual, etc. they’re born like that. Both racism and homophobia are things are need to be talked about and be explained to many people so they know how hurtful those things are. Let’s say you’re a guy that feels uncomfortable in your body and has a “female mindset”, you don’t like being masculine and you want to transition into a girl because your feminine brain doesn’t match your body. You wake up feeling like you’re in the wrong body everyday and all you can think about is makeup, dresses, anything considered feminine. The difference between homosexual and transgender is that homosexuals don’t feel the need to change their gender but transgender people need their bodies to match their brain whether you’re transitioning from male to female or vice versa so they can feel comfortable. I can spend a long while explaining the LGBTQ+ community’s situation. Here’s a link to help you understand a little better.

The best way to solve most of these problems is to pay more attention to them, hear everyone’s opinion, and help them understand in order for the world to be more accepting and smart.
(I know the question was to talk about one thing that I’d change but I was feeling extra)
